Grateful
Dawg review
For those
who did not get a chance to see Jerry Garcia and David Grisman live,
this is the next best thing. I had a chance to see the film at the
theater on a big screen and it is fantastic. We are treated to a small sampling of their repertoire
including their classic "Ariba."
Grateful
Dawg is not strictly live footage, but it
does include plenty. Additionally,
there are many interviews with people that knew Garcia including
insightful commentary directly from David Grisman.
The music
is mostly live performances, but there are some studio outtakes and
even some Old and in the Way, Garcia and Grisman's band from 1973.
The unreleased 1991 "The Thrill is Gone" music video by
Justin Kreutzmann is also included.
If you
are deciding whether to get the video of CD soundtrack keep in mind
that the video does have interviews over portions some of the songs.
