Garcia
and Grisman review
The debut
CD of the Garcia Grisman collaboration is the first of many great
recording from this collaboration of master musicians.
In addition to the star performers, David Grisman's band
fills out the rooster capably with Joe Craven on fiddle and
percussion, and James Kerwin on bass. They run through a myriad of
styles including their original “Grateful Dawg.”
This
album has many fine moments getting off to a quick start with a
truly unique and inspired version of "The Thrill is Gone."
If you want to hear Garcia and Grisman stretch out and jam give the
sixteen plus minute Middle Eastern flavored "Ariba" a
listen. Though, to my ears their rendition of "Russian
Lullaby" is the best part of this release.
There are
many other outstanding songs on the self-titled Jerry Garcia and
David Grisman CD. by Barry
