Pronounced
Leh-Nerd Skin-Nerd review
Lynyrd
Skynyrd’s first album Pronounced Leh-Nerd Skin-Nerd is a
fine debut album that has aged well over the years.
Their songwriting was already quite accomplished at this
early point of their career. sound is quite original branding the Southern Rock
label by combining blues, country, and rock ‘n roll into their own
style. They are often imitated, but never duplicated.
Many of
the songs from Pronounced became fan favorites and were
stables throughout their career such as “Gimme Three Steps,”
"Tuesday's Gone," and “I Ain’t the One.”
A lesser known song “Things Goin’ On” has super New
Orleans honky tonk style that showcases Billy Powell’s abilities,
as well as Lynyrd Skynyrd's songwriting strength. This track meshes
a seemingly country style song, which as it develops is just as much
a blues, and even rock song. A
careful listen to the piano solo of their ballad “Tuesday’s
Gone” has a hint the classic piano runs that would later be used
in “Free Bird,” as heard in their live rendition on One
More From the Road.
Lynyrd
Skynyrd's debut album also includes their classic “Free Bird”
that is not only their best song, it is one of rock’s greatest
songs. There is
quite a bit to like on the Pronounced Leh-Nerd Skin-Nerd. The
remastered release of Pronounced Leh-Nerd Skin-Nerd has five
additional tracks. by Barry Small ©
