Kids: The Steely Dan Story review
Showbiz Kids: The Steely
Dan Story is a fantastic collection of their music that contains most of their
best material through their 1980 album Gaucho. This
compilation goes beyond the radio hits and contains many great songs
that didn't make the airways such as "Only a Fool Would Say
That" from Can't Buy a Thrill, and "Any Major Dude Will
Tell You" from Pretzel Logic. Showbiz Kids: The
Steely Dan Story includes two great songs, "Here at the
Western World," and "FM," that were not on
their studio albums, but released on other previous
compilations. Some songs that I would have included if I
choose the material are compositions that don't necessarily sound like a typical
Steely Dan Song. Such as their attempt at Waltz with "East St. Louis
Toodle-oo," and the lone song that Jim Hodder sung,
"Midnight Cruiser."
Showbiz Kids: The Steely
Dan Story is a fairly comprehensive snapshot of their
career. Barry Small ©
