Bob Dylan and The Band
Recorded in 1967
Released in 1975
Recorded in the basement of Big Pink, a house rented by some
members of the Band, West Saugerties, N.Y., 1967.
Not originally intended to be released, but
as it was bootlegged so heavily, it was released in 1975. A
similar incident occurred with Garcia Grisman's The
Pizza Tapes.
Some of the better songs from this release
have appeared in other renditions. For example, Dylan recorded
other versions of "
One distinction between The Basement
Tapes and their two live albums, Bootleg
Series Vol. 4 (1966) and Before
the Flood, and other studio album, Planet
Waves; on those three albums, The Band is primarily
backing Dylan on his songs. However, on The Basement Tapes
there are several tracks by The Band.

Dylan's Bootleg Series Volume 1 - 3 is a compilation of
studio outtakes between 1961 - 1991.
Throughout the three discs there is plenty
of excellent material of both tracks never released as well as
alternative versions. The songs selected are tilted more
towards his early years in terms quantity of songs.

down the dates and notes the albums the outtake was taken from
when known.
Included with the disc is an excellent book
that discusses each individual song.
